The Brampton Ontario-based Nortel which enjoys a big customer base and strong relationships with many of the world's largest telephone carriers is running on borrowed time, and is in non-compliance with debt obligations and lags in product development

The probe conducted by Integrated Market Enforcement Team (IMET), a white-collar crime unit of RCMP on Nortel Networks Corp., the Brampton Ont.-based telecommunications equipment maker would be one of Canada's largest white-collar crime investigations. The widening scale of the investigations could pose problems for Nortel Networks Corp. in the long run including damaging customer relations and distracting the management from its game plan in a rapidly changing industry.
