Not quite Paradise

Article Abstract:

Putin proclaimed the importance of tourism for the country since Russia's travel industry and the tourism numbers have dropped due to the red tapism, poor infrastructure poor service, security fears and above all the cost factor. Russia expects to set a target of five million tourists by 2010, however it may not reach its goal due to rise in prices, and demand for new condos and apartments which seem insatiable, where investors are reluctant to put money into long-term investments.

Gandalfian grandeur

Article Abstract:

The tourism industry in New Zealand has moved up to a high level mainly due to the publicity generated by locally made blockbuster movies like the 'Lord of the Rings' and also by the unpaid endorsement by the cast who became zealots for their adopted country. The luxury lodges here are very popular with clients opting for weekend or short stay and the cost varies from a moderate price to very high so that people from various categories can come to enjoy their holidays.

And now, the 'dacha war'

Article Abstract:

Russian courts are empowering bureaucrats to demolish the dachas, or clusters of modest cottages, that are mushrooming in the areas surrounding Moscow, often in violation of zoning or construction rules. However, critics contend that the dacha war underscores how property rights remain hostage to political winds, and that the best defense is to be rich and powerful.
