Nuclear dominoes

Article Abstract:

The nuclear weapon was initially considered as a peace maker and a necessity for national security. However, on Aug 1945, it was first used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It killed thousands of people instantaneously and ended World War II. The nations reacted with attempts to produce nuclear weapons of their own. Despite the generous proposal of the US to share nuclear technology with all nations, on the condition of abiding with a nuclear policy to safeguard the utilization of nuclear weapons, the USSR declined. In 1949, the USSR made its own atomic bomb, and Britain, France and China followed suit.

Are U.S. export-licensing procedures inadequate to prevent nuclear proliferation?

Article Abstract:

Some people are calling for greater restrictions to be added to the export-licensing procedures for nuclear components in light of a General Accounting Office (GAO) study that claims 6% of such exports went to hostile nations and could be used in arms proliferation. The Dept of Commerce, who is in charge of controlling such exports, claims that they are vigilant in their inspections before licenses are granted. They point out that most of this 6% cited by the GAO involved cooperative arrangements between other countries and the US.

Would constructing a low-level radioactive nuclear-waste dump near Sierra Blanca, Texas, constitute "environmental injustice"?

Article Abstract:

Sierra Blanca, Texas was chosen as a low-level radioactive waste dump, not because it is inhabited by a predominately poor Hispanic population, but because Texas needs a facility for toxic waste. While the site is located atop an earthquake fault line near the Rio Grande River, the facility has been designed to withstand earthquakes of equivalent seismic proportion that have hit Texas.
