Oil falls as OPEC rows to raise output

Article Abstract:

Prices of crude oil, natural gas and wholesale gasoline went down in June 2004 as Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) vowed to boost production even as inventories rose in the US. The decision by the OPEC to boost output quota has off set a large portion of the terror premium up to $12 a barrel due to the fear that a terrorist attack would curtail crude shipments from the Persian Gulf.

The war in Iraq is contributing to a sharp drop in global oil prices as crude oil prices fell by 29% in March. U.S.-led forces have not yet captured Iraq's northern oil fields but industry analysts said that the country's oil fields are not expected to be destroyed by President Saddam Hussein.

OPEC calls emergency meeting

Article Abstract:

The president of OPEC predicted that the global petroleum industry may face a sharp drop in oil prices due to oversupply. OPEC, which called an emergency meeting to stave off an oil production crisis, is concerned that oil flow to North America will precede a production decline.
