One of a kind: the Hibernia rig is an engineering wonder

Article Abstract:

The $5.8-bil Hibernia offshore oil platform was an extremely complex engineering project that took six years to build. In Mar 1997, the bottom and top parts of the structure will be mated, allowing production to be begin. The finished platform will stand 224m tall and weigh 1.2 mil tons.

Hibernia rising: will offshore oil help to revive the Rock?

Article Abstract:

Hibernia's $5.8 billion offshore oil platform in Jeanne d'Arc Basin, Newfoundland, is scheduled to begin production in Jun 1997, raising hopes that the province is on the brink of better economic future. However, critics contend the project will benefit a small minority of workers.

Ten years after a bomb exploded on Air India flight 182 on its way to India from Toronto and Montreal, killing 329 people, the case remains unsolved. Sikh extremists have been suspected but no one has yet been charged. The reactions of some of the survivors is described.
