Alberta premier Ralph Klein was not pleased with Canadian prime minister Chretien's proposal to recognize Quebec as a distinct society through legislation. British Columbia's leaders also expressed reservations about the plan, which would give Western Canada a constitutional veto.

Nova Scotia native Denny Doherty was a member of The Mamas and the Papas in the 1960s and had a varied career in acting and music after the group disbanded in 1969. He has turned his experiences into a one-man show, 'Dream a Little Dream,' which is playing in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
