Overhaul of securities industry urged: New report says Canada out of step

A government-appointed committee wants a radical overhaul of securities regulation in Canada with recommendations to replace Canada's fragmented system of 13 provincial and territorial regulators with one agency based in Ottawa. The committee released a report warning that Canada's regulatory structure is out of step with the needs of market participants and the rest of the world.

TXS no longer governance cop: Gives up power to provincial securities regulators: guidelines to be published

Article Abstract:

The Toronto Exchange is giving up the responsibility of setting corporate governance standards to provincial securities regulators, who are planning to publish a draft policy setting out voluntary guidelines for Canada's public companies. The proposed plan will make it compulsory for companies to disclose whether they follow the guidelines or not.
