Past Defeat and Personal Quest Shape Long-Shot Kucinich Bid

Article Abstract:

Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich may seem an unlikely presidential candidate, but his determination to win the Democratic Party's nomination is strong and clear. Twice divorced, Kucinich is the only presidential candidate who voted against the Iraq war and is willing to make strategic peace and anti-war initiatives central to his campaign. At the age of 57, he is known for his political defiance when he was mayor of Cleveland, a post he lost in the 1979 election because he stood up to local banks during the city's fiscal crisis. He was elected to the Ohio State Senate in 1994 and the House of Representatives in 1996.

Clark's Rivals Irked by Campaign Aide's Tactics

Article Abstract:

Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark is getting a new kind of attention that may or may not help him. He is using communications strategist Chris Lehane, a survivor of Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. Lehane is known for manipulating press stories about other candidates to develop negative reports in the media. Veteran campaign workers claim he is extremely effective in what is known as "opposition research" and he has helped Clark make gains in New Hampshire.
