Pay equity threatens non-profit homecare

Article Abstract:

A cross-cultural coalition on pay equity has asked the government to provide interim measures that would enable nonprofit home-care firms to compete better with for-profit agencies. According to Michael Scheinert, head of Circle of Care, nonprofit home-care agencies could not compete well because of a 1994 pay-equity rule that prohibits them to lower salaries. Unless the government will act, Scheinert said, a significant number of nonprofit home-care agencies will shut down.
