Pepsi's competition is clear in soft-drink war

Article Abstract:

Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co will enter the lemon-line soft-drink market with the launch in mid-Nov 2000 of its new Sierra Mist. The introduction will be supported by a $50-million marketing campaign starting with an advertisement that features supermodel Esther Canadas. Pepsi's entry is considered very timely as the lemon-lime soft-drink category continues to enjoy growth. According to Beverage Marketing Corp, the category grew 2% in 1999, dominated by Coca-Cola Co's Sprite and Cadbury-Schweppes PLC's 7Up.

Deal puts Reinemund on the fast track

Article Abstract:

PepsiCo Pres and CEO-designate Steve Reinemund's climb to the top of the corporation will speed up. He will become chairmand and CEO of PepsiCo when its deal to acquire Quaker Oats is finalized in 2001. Under PepsiCo's succession plan, Reinemund would not have become chairman until 2002. He is currently president and COO and responsible for the Pepsi-Cola, Tropicana and Frito-Lay units. He is scheduled to take over by mid-2001 from Chmn and CEO Roger Enrico.

Coke settles bias lawsuit for $192.5M

Article Abstract:

Coca-Cola Co (Atlanta, Georgia) has agreed to settle a class-action racial discrimination lawsuit for a total of $192.5 million. The settlement, announced on Nov 16, 2000, is believed to be the biggest-ever settlement for racial bias in the US. According to the deal, Coca-Cola has agreed to pay $92.4 million in cash to over 2,000 current and former employees who are of African-American descent.
