Philanthropy in America: Legislative outlook

Article Abstract:

Members of the Council on Foundations' Gunderson have met with the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and members of the House Ways and Means Committee to analyze what the new Democratic-led Congress has in store for the nonprofit charity sector. Gunderson said that the Committee members assured him that they would work with the charity sector and grow philanthropy if the charity sector would partner with them to address issues of concern with their communities.

Philanthropy in America: Watchdog groups spotlight efficient charities

Article Abstract:

People who wish to give money to charity have far less information to go about the process, despite the existence of a number of charity organizations. Charity Navigator, a nonprofit organization, fills the void by operating a free Web site and rating charities based on various criteria, including what percent of proceeds are spent on philanthropic work rather than administration and fundraising.
