Private Agriculture Giant to Go a Bit Public

Cargill Inc. has announced that it will merge Cargill Fertilizer with IMC Global in an estimated $5 billion deal. Cargill seeks an opportunity to raise funds in capital markets. One of the most secretive and privately-held agricultural products companies anywhere, Cargill will now make information available to investors about its expansive operations in grain, cotton, feed, salt, cocoa, beef, steel, and rubber.

Five Bidders Seek to Win Albertson's At Auction

Article Abstract:

Kroger Co., the largest supermarket chain in the United States, is one of several companies bidding for Albertson's Inc., which owns 2,300 grocery stores. Consortiums lead by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Thomas H. Lee Partners and the Yucaipa Companies, are also looking to buy Albertson's.
