Program's ease comes at the cost of speed

Article Abstract:

Software Ventures Corp introduces Microphone II 3.0, updated communications software for the Apple Mcintosh microcomputer. Microphone II, $295, can be used to perform a variety of defined tasks almost invisibly. With the click of a button, Microphone II can look up a telephone number for an electronic mail system, dial the number, enter the user's security information, gather incoming messages, send messages as a fax, Telex or instant electronic mail, and sign off. If the Macintosh user has Multifinder, Microphone II can operate invisibly while the user is working on another program. Microphone II comes with scripts for the automatic operation of such popular electronic services as Compuserve, MCI Mail, Delphi, Dow Jones and the Well. Microphone II requires a lot more disk space and lacks the speed of previous editions.

On the Macintosh front

Article Abstract:

T/Maker Co's $195 Writenow 2.2 word processing software and Aldus Corp's $795 Pagemaker 4.0 desktop publishing software are two software packages designed for the Macintosh microcomputer. Writenow 2.2 works on a Macintosh with 512K and a single 800Kbyte disk drive. It is one of the fastest and easiest word processing software packages available for the Macintosh, offering a Wordmaster thesaurus that encompasses 1.4 million synonyms and antonyms, as well as a 135,000-word spell checker. An upgrade to Writenow 2.2 from Writenow 2.0 is $49. Pagemaker 4.0 can handle documents that are hundreds of pages long. It has a built-in text processor Story Editor and it handles formatted documents in a more flexible way. An upgrade to Pagemaker 4.0 from previous versions is $150.
