QSC loses job of creating system for filing insider trades

Article Abstract:

The Quebec Securities Commission lost the job of creating an electronic system for reporting insider trading. The Canadian Securities Administrators decided to hand over the job to the Canadian Depository for Securities, a private agency that oversees the clearing of securities transactions, to eliminate any possible conflicts over the system's development, according to Doug Hyndman, chairman of the British Columbia Securities Commission.

Rogers ups ante, wins wireless stake

Article Abstract:

A $1.8-billion deal was signed with AT&T Wireless Services Inc. by Rogers Communications Inc. in order to buy back a minority stake for getting better control of the high-growth cell phone business. The deal strengthens Roger Communications' position in the volatile and highly competitive cell phone business and puts the company in a position to make a bid for Microcell.

Pratt loses massive European contract

Pratt and Whitney Canada Corp.'s huge military aircraft engine contract with Airbus Industries has been terminated as a result of lobbying efforts by governments and businesses in Europe. European governments and companies wanted to keep the contract's aircraft engine business in Europe.
