Resource firms turn to selling off divisions

Article Abstract:

Paper maker Smurfit-Stone Container Corp of Chicago, IL, will sell a 41-million-share stake in Abitibi-Consolidated Inc of Montreal. The value of the stake is projected to reach C$684 million. In another deal, Nova Chemicals is selling its 38.8-million state in energy marketing company Dynegy Inc of Houston, TX. The value of the stake is expected to fetch $645 million based on the latest closing price of Dynegy shares.

High-tech broker hurt by misrouted order

ITG Canada Corp., which is a high-tech brokerage house, suffered high losses due to a misrouted order. ITG, which is led by president and chief executive officer Ken Hight, reported that an order of approximately forty stocks was sent to the Toronto Stock Exchange by mistake.
