RioCan, CPP team up in $1-billion big-box venture: Partnership plans to invest in one of hottest growth stories in retail sector

RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board are investing $1-billion in shopping centers that features big-box stores, the hottest growth stories in the retail sector. The Joint venture is the latest unification of pension money with a real estate player as Canada's biggest funds search for alternative investments to boost returns at a time when the stock market is turning in a disappointing performance.

Canadian dads taking parental leave

A new report from Statistics Canada reveals that approximately ten percent of fathers in Canada used parental leave benefits. The report, which shows a 3% increase in parental leave usage over the past year, attributes the increase to the introduction of new federal employment benefits.

Iraq war, SARS hit travel in March

A new report on the country's travel industry shows that trips abroad by Canadians fell 4% in March. Industry analysts said that the travel decline is attributed to fears over the war in Iraq and the worldwide SARS outbreak, which has hit Toronto, Ontario particularly hard.
