Former Australian mid-heavyweight weightlifting champion, Roger May, is executive chairman of Australon, a company that supplies telco-infrastructure products. In Spring 2001, the company's announcements about a possible agreement with a major electric utility company, and a joint contract to supply services to a large residential developer, caused renewed interest in his company's stock.

In May 2001, the small telecommunications equipment company E-Phone made some changes, including a name change to Electronic Transaction Technologies, that leave it looking like a possible competitor for established Australian company Keycorp. E-Phone was established in 1999.

Stockford in the stocks

The financial services firm Stockford received a shock from the Australian market in 2001 when its failed to reach predicted profit. The firm's market capitalisation fell to 98 million Australian dollars from 311.
