Article Abstract:

Royal Aviation Inc. of Montreal, Canada, has posted a loss of C$10.4 million or 55 cents on revenue of C$235 million for the nine-month-period ended Jan. 31, 1999. The airline posted a profit of C$9.2 million or 66 cents on revenue of C$167.5 million for the same period in the previous fiscal year. Royal Aviation was able to increase its revenue when it formed an alliance with tour operator Signature Vacations Inc, but excess capacity and intense price competition have reduced its margins by 30%.

CAI posts 'disastrous' results in 4th quarter

Article Abstract:

Canadian Airlines International Ltd has posted a loss of C$137.6 million, or C$3.05 per share, on revenue of C$3.2 billion in 1998, from a profit of C$5.4 million, or 12 cents a share, on C$3.1 billion in 1997. The company lost nearly C$150 million in the 4th qtr 1998 alone. Canadian Airlines attributed the loss to the six-month labor dispute at partner American Airlines, the sharp increase in airport and air navigation user fees and the price war that eroded margins in the California market.
