Royal Oak Mines Inc founder and CEO Margaret Witte faces yet another challenge as she struggles to retain control of the company and its most precious asset, the Kemess gold and copper mine in British Columbia. Having escaped a bomb attack and a seemingly never-ending series of financial woes, she is now faced with how to restructure the company's debts under bankruptcy protection. Failing that, control of the company could be taken over by its unsecured creditors and the Kemess mine could be foreclosed by Trilon Financial Corp or Northgate Exploration Ltd.

Louisiana-Pacific wins fight for Forex

Louisiana-Pacific Corp has won the bidding battle for Groupe Forex Inc, a Quebec, Canada-based firm that produces oriented strandbroard, after Boise, ID-based Boise Cascade Corp decided not to top Louisiana-Pacific's latest bid of C$760 million in cash, or $33 per share, for all of Forex's fully diluted shares totalling 23 million. Another potential buyer could make an offer for Forex as Louisiana-Pacific's offer is effective for 21 days.
