Search for Web profits comes full circle

Article Abstract:

The internet's most popular activities are e-mail and search queries, which is why Alta Vista who with Lycos, Excite and Infoseek had started as search engines, become full-service portals and whose profits plummeted, has returned to being a search engine again to attract users and earn advertising dollars. Only survivors Yahoo, MSN and America Online remain being full-service portals.
