Secrets of coming second

Article Abstract:

Australian Prime Minister John Howard claims the credit for the two election victories of Mike Rann and Paul Lennon. According to Howard, these two Labor premiers were swept back to power in South Australia and Tasmania, reflecting on the strong national economic performance and great national economic prosperity due to the policies of the federal government, but apart from Howard's claims, there were other factors which contributed to their victory such as their political skills, strong leadership, populist approach and a tightly focused election campaign.

A brief history of events leading up to Howard's victory is discussed.
