Some people think Congress should repeal a superfund provision that a company must cleanup hazardous waste dumped before 1980 because it has wrongly targeted people who may not have had much responsibility in polluting a site. Retroactive liability has not made polluters pay, as was the intention. Other people think that if polluters are held responsible for their past actions, a more efficient and responsible system would result.

The views of a lawyer and an executive of media law resource center, against and with the issue of congress passing a federal shield law for journalists are highlighted. According to Sandra Baron, the federal shield law would set national and consistent standards for a privilege that exists under statue, while Bruce Fein opts against it as it lowers on evidentiary privileges.
