Sink or swim

Article Abstract:

The annual wet season in Burk Shire causes the closure of about 750 kilometers of Highway One. The flooding of rivers and creeks also prevents tourists to get back home. Mayor Annie Clarke has been pressuring for more funding to deal with the five-month flooding, but it has not been delivered yet. In addition, the federal government has decided that councils cannot ask for disaster relief unless they do work to improve food immunity and mitigate the damage of flooding.

Hopes of a MICE plague

Article Abstract:

Australian tourism officials are working hard to bring more MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) visitors to Australia. In 1997, 4.32 million people visited Australia, and only 112,000 people were there for conventions. Officials argue that MICE people spend more money on plane tickets, go to better hotels, invest more in activities, and bring more to the local economy.
