The low-revenue Montreal Expos unloaded several of their best players in Apr 1995 to reduce salary costs, while the large-revenue Toronto Blue Jays added several high-priced players. The Expos reduced their payroll to $19 million by losing Larry Walker and others. Toronto's payroll is three times larger.

Canadian driver Jacques Villeneuve is leading the Formula One circuit and is favored to win the 1997 championship title. Villeneuve is the son of Gilles Villeneuve, who was killed in a 1982 Grand Prix accident. The differences between father and son illustrate the changes in Grand Prix racing.
