Global foreign exchange markets are going through one of their more tumultuous passages since the collapse of the Bretton Woods system in the early 1970s, largely due to the persistent weakness of the United States dollar. The Australian dollarEs interdependence on the greenback leaves it highly vulnerable to any American policy of currency depreciation.

The government election promises, which are unlikely to be appropriate or optimal, are reported. Promises for an enormous boost to super future is being made with a spare of $8bn in the pocket, it being a part of a free spending election campaign which ignores the growing risk of global slowdown.
