Educator puts interactive lessons to test

Be Smart Kids is a Nashville, TN-based firm that offers writing and computing skills to youngsters by combining computer work with encouragement. It is founded by former teacher Donna Blevins and Jack Gilbert in 1991. Since its founding, Be Smart Kids, which had revenues of around 100,000 in 1998, has helped 1,500 youngster develop their reading, writing and computing skills. Be Smart Kids currently employs 10 people.

Wit Capital is a New York, NY-based on-line stock brokerage firm. The firm underwrites initial public offerings (IPO) on-line. Wit Capital, founded by Andrew Klein, intends to democratize stock offerings via the Internet. The company has already played a key role in 52 IPOs.
