Sony to take charge to pay for cellular phone recall

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp. is taking a first quarter charge of about $95 million to pay for the recall of 560,000 flawed Web-enabled cellular telephones. About 30 million Japanese use such phones as these. Sony had recalled hundreds of thousands of phones before as has Matsushita Communication Industrial. Such problems are due to almost maniacal competition where products are rushed to market. Sometimes complaints escalate into recalls via zealous chat room users. Web-enabled phones are also very complicated.
