Southam director bought shares just before Post deal

Article Abstract:

Southam Inc. Director Stephen Jarislowsky bought 20,000 company shares just as the company began negotiations to purchase The Financial Post from Sun Media Corp., but the he denied that he had any knowledge of the deal until it was announced. The deal between the two company gave Southam an 80-percent stake in the Post and a means to realize its long-planned national newspaper. Also after the deal was announced, Jarislowsky's purchased shares gained C$54,000 in value and currently he holds 50,000 Southam shares.

CIT group takes over newcourt

Article Abstract:

Canadian non-bank financing company Newcourt Credit Group Inc. will be acquired by New Jersey-based CIT Group Inc. in a $4.1-bil stock deal. CIT will pay 0.92 of its share for each Newcourt share. The combined entity, which will be called CIT-Newcourt, will have $50 billion in assets and 8,200 employees. The companies specialize in arranging financing for companies that are purchasing or leasing equipment such as vehicles, aircraft or computers.
