Bells bids for controlling stake of Atlantic Canada's Aliant

Article Abstract:

Bell Canada is expected to strengthen its position in Canada's Atlantic telephone market through its acquisition of a controlling interest in telephone firm Aliant Inc. Bell Canada's acquisition, if approved, will increase its ownership in Aliant from 41% presently to between 51% and 53%. Bell will pay $427 million for 15.8 million Aliant shares at $27 per share. The deal, which is contingent on regulatory approval, is expected to be finalized on Dec 31, 1999.

PC Docs snubs Australian suitor

Article Abstract:

PC Docs Group International Inc of Toronto, Ontario, has turned down an unsolicited offer worth an estimated C$230 million from Sydney-based Solution 6 Holdings Ltd. Solution 6's offer was ironic considering that the company was a takeover target of PC Docs in 1998. PC Docs president Rubin Osten said Solution's 6 bid was rejected because the two companies were deemed not to be a good fit.
