Stocking a giant toybox

Article Abstract:

Online toy seller eToys is preparing aggressively for 1999 holiday season sales, which are expected to account for over 65% of a projected $125 million in revenue for the fiscal year. Total online holiday shopping is expected to reach $9 billion for the year. Thus, eToys is ensuring that all its sales systems, a backup and warehouse team are ready for the coming holiday sales deluge. Although many companies are emerging as strong competitors, eToys still posted market record revenue for the nine months ended Sep 30, 1999, at $27.3 million.

After initial pop, most IPOs take a beating

Article Abstract:

Prices of recently offered IPO stocks have quickly fallen after their average opening-day prices. Out of 27 companies that were able to post average first-day gains of 22.4%, 22 saw their share prices decline by 8% by the end of the first week. Market analysts said the trend could indicate declining investor interest in IPOs. Another probable reason was that there were too many IPOs in the previous week.
