The 'just right' summit; not too hot, not too cold - just perfect for an election

Chretien's 3-day visit with Pres Clinton enhanced Chretien's image and chances for re-election. Relations between the countries and between Chretien and Clinton are positive. The few areas of disagreement served only to remind Canadians of Chretien's and Canada's independence.

Canadian prime minister Jean Chretien emphasized the need to increase intercontinental commerce during his 12-nation tour of South and Central America in Feb 1995. Some 200 Canadian businesspeople accompanied Chretien on the trade mission.
