Suits plague Ottawa's books

Article Abstract:

The Finance Department reported a slew of massive lawsuits against the federal government poses a significant negative threat to Ottawa's balance in November 2003 as it unveiled for the first time details of tens of billions of dollars in potential liabilities. There is uncertainty regarding the eventual outcome of many actions against the government, some of which could have significant negative financial consequences.

Hong Kong buckles amid wave of protests

Tung Chee-Hwa, the chief executive of Hong Kong, has postponed a Draconian national security bill as a result of major street demonstrations. The bill was also delayed by the resignation of a major government ally.

Three arrested in attack on Premier

Article Abstract:

Alberta, Canada's premier, Ralph Klein, was assaulted by three men with a banana cream pie. Klein was struck hard by the pie at his yearly Calgary Stampede breakfast. The three assailants were arrested.
