Superior bids for Petrocan unit

Article Abstract:

Superior Propane Inc., based in Calgary, Alberta, has offered about C$200 million to purchase ICG Propane Inc., the propane subsidiary of Petro-Canada. The proposed acquisition would provide Superior 70% of the retail propane distribution market in Canada. Superior Chairman and CEO Grant Billing said that his firm is nearing a deal with ICG that would help it reduce costs and make a more efficient distribution system. Superior holds 40% of the market, whereas ICG controls 30%, a fact that would trigger opposition from some consumer groups.
