Swimming with sharks

Article Abstract:

Rohan Gunaratna, the head of terrorism studies at the Institute of Strategic and Defense Studies, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, suggests some remedies to keep a check on terrorism. He is of the opinion that every government should pass legislation outlawing all groups associated with terrorism and such legislation should allow new groups to be banned by regulation as soon as they are detected, or dropped from the list if they have disbanded or renounced terrorism.

Welcome matters

Article Abstract:

Australians must remember that immigrants after World War II were also shunned at first, although those immigrants have made Australia a better place to live. Current efforts to deny refuge to asylum seekers should be replaced by efforts to manage immigration, with a return to the post-WWII policy expressed by the Immigration Department:"the freedom-loving people of Australia welcome you."
