Talk if you must, but at least put some muscle into idle chat

Article Abstract:

Cellular telephone battery failure is a serious problem, but new devices now convert energy for phones with rechargeable batteries. Aladdinpower is a hand-held generator kit that lets users squeeze a handle to convert motion into energy to be transferred to phones. The list price is $59.95. Motorola will introduce the FreeCharge recharger in Nov. 2001. For $49.99, the device, made by Freeplay, offers a hand-cranked winder that requires 45 seconds of turning to gain five or six talk minutes or three hours of standby time. It stores a wall outlet charge that conveys energy chemically instead of mechanically.
