Talking to a stranger

Article Abstract:

The most common method of communication online is chatting, called Internet Relay Chat (IRC). Internet users chat simultaneously with friends, family, or perfect strangers about topics ranging from politics to sex. They chat by typing their messages on screen and reading the replies of other chatters. Thousands of Web providers have set up chat rooms where visitors can talk to people they would never meet face to face.
