The cuts to CBC Radio and TV could result in the elimination of some popular Canadian programs such as 'Morningside' and 'As It Happens.' The CBC is even considering closing news bureaus in some Canadian cities. This could result in further Americanization of culture and threaten Canadian values.

The Liberal Party's support fell from 46% in Feb 1997, to 41% in Apr 1997, and the party is down 11% since since Jul 1996. Some of the reasons for voter dissatisfaction are Chretien's about-face on the GST tax and the scandals over Somalia and the Pearson Airport.

Time for a mood change

Article Abstract:

The Quebec controversy has inflamed passions within Canada, and it is now time to tone down the rhetoric and listen to other perspectives. One way to do this would be for the federal government to encourage Canadians to travel to other provinces and regions.
