The maps are in the computer

Article Abstract:

Two geographic information systems and three geographic databases are presented. MECC's $49.95 USA Geograph geographic information system for the Macintosh allows users to manipulate US maps and information about the mapped areas. The software contains 64 maps with abundant variations in full color, and 124 categories of facts that users can link in many ways. PC Maps Corp's $99.95 PC Maps geographic information system for IBM and compatible microcomputers provides a map of a metropolitan area, finds addresses, prints maps, and provides grids for measuring distances. Maps of additional metropolitan areas cost $39.95 each. Interoptica Publishing Ltd's $79.95 Great Wonders of the World, Volume I CD-ROM database provides maps, photographs, narration, illustrations, music and animated sequences on man-made wonders. Medialive's $99 America Alive CD-ROM database provides maps, text, photographs and sound about US states, cities and national parks. The National Geographic Society's $149.95 Picture Atlas of the World CD-ROM database provides maps, music, video and foreign phrases. The atlas costs $99 for schools.

Systems Compatibility Corp's $129 Complete Writer's Toolkit program is a spelling checker and grammar checker that includes six tools that help the user process an accurate document. The program, which runs on MS-DOS 2 or later, includes: the Roget's II Electronic Thesaurus with 500,000 synonyms; the American Heritage Electronic Dictionary with 115,000 words; the Concise Columbia Dictionary of Quotations with 6,000 entries; the Written Word II grammar and style reference; the Abbreviations Expander; and the Houghton Mifflin CorrecText grammar correction facility. The Complete Writer's Toolkit works with most word processors.
