The meaning of it all, electronically

Article Abstract:

Icon Do-It, $29.95, from Moon Valley Software, Phoenix, AZ, has 250 colorful, interesting icons for Microsoft's Windows 3.0 program. Substituting Icon Do-It's icons for those that are supplied with Windows is easy to do. There are also ways to vary the cursor, and there are 'screen savers,' which are utility programs that blank out a screen or supply animations that keep a screen busy after a specified time passes without keyboard activity. ScreenCraze, $49.95, from Gold Disk, Torrance, CA, gives a user various choices of screen savers. The Electronic Computer Glossary, $29.95, from Computer Language Co, Point Pleasant, PA, is a 5,000-term electronic dictionary-encyclopedia on a disk. The product focuses on computer-industry terminology. There are versions for MS-DOS 2.0 or later and for Windows 3.0 and for the Macintosh's HyperCard 2.0 or later.

Learning to manage a bit more memory

Article Abstract:

Memory Commander 2.18, $99.95, an operating system enhancement from V Communications, San Jose, CA, is designed to manage memory on MS-DOS microcomputers. Such microcomputers ordinarily encounter problems managing memory of more than 640Kbytes. Memory Manager allocates memory depending on the requirements of applications. Getting the most from Memory Manager, or a program like it, can be a difficult and complicated task. Difficulties encountered by the reviewer are described. Memory Commander requires a microcomputer with an 80386SX, 80386DX or 80486 microprocessor, MS-DOS 3.0 or better, a hard disk or a network disk, and at least 512Kbytes of extended memory. A megabyte of extended memory is recommended. Separately, a book is mentioned and recommended, 'DOS for Dummies,' by Dan Gookin ($16.95: IDG Books Worldwide).
