The natives say no: Quebec's aboriginals may be able to sink the separatist dream

Article Abstract:

Native peoples make up less than 1% of Quebec's population, but they may be powerful enough to prevent Quebec's secession from the rest of Canada. The eleven different native groups are united in their opposition to secession, and have threatened to form their own independent state.

Article Abstract:

The Cree and Inuit nations oppose the independence movement of Quebec, fearing that autonomy would mean the loss of wilderness areas rich in resources. There are 4,500 eligible Cree voters and 4,100 Unuit. Both separatists and federalists deny that the lands would be lost.

Taking on separatism: lawyer Guy Bertrand is in the eye of the storm
