The strains are showing

Article Abstract:

The headlines concerning the role of the UNSCOM team to spy on Iraq was denied by the Clinton administration and the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. The US admitted using sophisticated listening devices to assist UNSCOM, but it did not work with anyone in the team to collect information to undermine the Iraqi regime. However, reports since the "Desert Fox" strikes suggest that UNSCOM materials were passed on by the CIA to Pentagon that helped pinpoint targets in Iraq.

The veiw from Baghdad

Article Abstract:

Saddam Hussein in summer 1998 defied the United Nations and ordered the arms inspectors out of Iraq, despite his Feb agreement with Secretary-General Kofi Annan. However, Saddam miscalculated and thought he would outlast another American president and make himself the regional power. His refusal to cooperate was met with threats of air attacks and his neighbors refused support him in his latest move.

War on many fronts

Article Abstract:

NATO is continuing its bombing of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, in early May, 1999, but there are doubts that the military operation is ending ethnic cleansing, as more Albanian refugees leave Kosovo. American President Bill Clinton is being criticized for his unwillingness to consider a ground war in Yugoslavia. Clinton prefers a gradual increase of pressure on the Serbs, including a new trade embargo.
