Thomson sells two newspapers on Okanagan to Black Press

Article Abstract:

Thomson Corp. of Toronto, Ontario, has sold its two newspapers, The Daily Courier and the Penticton Herald, to Victoria, BC-based Black Press Ltd., which owns 80 newspapers and 10 regional press operations. The two newspapers, based in Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, were situated in a place that does not have the critical mass for Thomson's strategic marketing group (SMG) strategy, according to Stuart Garner, head of Thomson division Thomson Newspapers. Thomson previously sold the Victoria Times-Colonist and a number of community newspapers on Vancouver Island to Conrad Black's newspaper group.
