Tire lawsuit settled

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co and Bridgestone/Firestone have settled a lawsuit involving a Corpus Christi woman Donna Bailey who was paralyzed when the Ford Explorer she was riding rolled over due to a separated tread on one of the SUV's Firestone tires. The settlement came just hours before the case was supposed to go on trial on Jan 8, 2001. The amount involved was not disclosed but it is speculated to reach $30 million. Medical experts were expected to testify that building an intensive care and rehabilitation facility in her hometown would cost more than $26 million.

Ford recalls new, older SUVs for possible tire problems

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor is recalling 45,000 2002 Explorer SUVs and 7,000 Mercury Mountaineers over possible problems with their Goodyear and Michelin tires. The automaker says only 7% of the 52,000 vehicles have damaged tires but dealers will inspect all vehicles to be sure. Ford will replace the defective tires for free and would reimburse owners who have bought new tires. The company also intends to replace all Firestone tires used on previous Explorer and Mountaineer models.
