Tire meeting avoids Firestone firestorm

Article Abstract:

Tire industry representatives launched innovative processes involving rubber compounds, curing temperatures, hydroplaning, uniformity, ruptures, run-flat technology and scrapping options at the international Tire Exhibition and Conference. However, attempts to create consumer excitement over new products, such as run-flat tires, failed. The industry is instead shifting its attention to smart tires in which computer chips in the wheel or tire can help reduce failures. The Firestone recall was mentioned only briefly since the cause of the failures has not yet been pinpointed.

Jag revs up to capitalize on success of Porsche, Mercedes

Article Abstract:

Jaguar Cars is producing a new two-seat sports car called the F-Type to be patterned after the famed E-Type of the 1960s. The F-Type would be launched as a 2004 model, with Jaguar building 30,000 units each year. The roadster would also be the fourth model in Jaguar's lineup after the introduction of the XK series in late 2000. Jaguar CEO Wolfgang Reitzle said the company is optimistic that the F-Type would meet the same success as Porsche's Boxster and Mercedes' SLK.
