Tobacco firm gets CCAA aid in tax fight

Article Abstract:

The maker of Export A cigarettes, JTI-Macdonald Corp. went to a Toronto bankruptcy judge for protection after Quebec seized cash from wholesalers to collect $1.36-billion in tobacco taxes, interest and penalties on August 24, 2004. The company owes the amount on cigarettes shipped to the US and smuggled back into the province in 1990s.

CSIS agent destroyed Air-India evidence

Article Abstract:

A Canadian Security Intelligence Service agent destroyed key evidence from the Air India bombing case in an inter-agency disupte with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The 1985 terrorist bombing, which was the worst case of mass murder in Canada's history, killed 329 people.
