Too many chiefs, not enough democracy

Article Abstract:

Australian Prime Minister John Howard believes a small government is much more effective, which has resulted in almost 5000 jobs being eliminated. However, when the public asks for smaller government, they actually mean the executive, ministers, and politicians who actually run these operations. Howard is glad to cut the public sector, but he does not believe a smaller ministry is part of a small government.

All power to the marginals. (Australian Labor Party must include marginal seats in developing policy)

Article Abstract:

The Australian Labor Party must change the way it develops policy. Policy has been developed first at a party caucus and then distributed through the party structure. The October 1998 election indicates that policy must include marginal seat strategy. Labor Party marginal seat candidates must start campaigning.
