Treatment flushes HIV from blood

Article Abstract:

A new AIDS treatment that involves flushing out of HIV from the blood stream is still under development. The method capitalizes on a theory that flushing out the virus from the blood exposes it to anti-HIV drugs. The new treatment, tested among 14 patients, is far from being effective as confirmed in a negative biopsy of a patient's lymph node, according to Anthony Fauci of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Meanwhile, a 1997 study confirmed that some inactive immune cells in AIDS patients suffer from the virus despite several treatments.

Handy test checks cholesterol without blood

Article Abstract:

International Medical Innovations has developed a test that determines cholesterol buildup in the body as well as the extent of a person's cardiovascular disease. The Russian technology is hitched to an enzyme that changes color three minutes after coming in contact with cholesterol. A device reads the color change and supplies a quantifiable estimate of artery-disease risk. The company has begun to develop a home version so people can monitor their own cholesterol levels.
