UPS center: holiday ground zero

Article Abstract:

The week of Christmas is 'Peak Week' at United Parcel Service (UPS) delivery center in Hodgkins, IL. The facility expects to process about 90 million packages on a six-day period, which is UPS' busiest season ever for any year. The situation is aggravated by shopppers who purchase via the Internet and UPS has been forced to work overtime to make sure that the packages are delivered by Christmas. The Hodgkins facility, UPS' largest, employs 8,000 workers and measures two million sq ft.

Postal Service ad: fly right

Article Abstract:

U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will launch an ad campaign aimed at making Americans feel fuzzy and warm about the organization and its products. The commercial, which is set to the Steve Miller tune "Fly Like an Eagle," shows cheerful USPS employees busy working around the clock. The campaign, which is expected to cost USPS $50 million, aims to relay the message, "The Postal Service is set for the holidays." The ads will run on cable channels and major broadcast until Christmas 1998.

UPS hesistates to re-up as Olympic sponsor

Article Abstract:

United Parcel Service of America (UPS) has yet to sign as sponsor of the Salt Lake Winter Olympics as it is still smarting from its involvement in a ticketing fiasco in the Sydney Olympics. UPS CEO Jim Kelley said they will decide the matter only after the Sydney Olympics and only after evaluating if they would get a good return on their investment. What UPS does not want is another ticketing fiasco and wants to know for sure who will deliver the tickets at Salt Lake.
