Martin expected to approve TD-CT deal

Toronto Dominion Bank is expected to receive regulatory approval for its $7.8 billion acquisition of CT Financial Services Inc. Canada's Finance Minister Paul Martin, who will announce the decision by the Competition Bureau and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Services, may require T-D to divest some of its credit card operations.

U.S. bank powerhouse born: Analysts expect merger to trigger more consolidations

Article Abstract:

Bank of America Corporation agreed to buy FleetBoston Financial Corporation in October 2003 for $47-billion to trigger another round of consolidation in the financial services sector. This merger is considered to be a mega deal in the US and the Bank of America would have a hold of less than 10 percent on the entire US deposits.

Onex pledges domestic control over new airline

Article Abstract:

Onex Corp and American Airlines Inc are making a joint acquisition bid for Air Canada and Canadian Airlines International Ltd. Some concerned groups and industry officials have expressed apprehension that Onex will eventually allow its American counterpart to take control over domestic airline services in the country. Onex Corp chairman Gerald Schwartz has denied the allegations.
