Article Abstract:

The House vote which overwhelmingly approved health care reform was due to the strong support given by doctors and dentists who are House members. A significant number are Republicans who refused to follow their party's stand to oppose health care reform. The bill was sponsored by Rep Charlie Norwood, a Republican dentist from Atlanta, GA. Most of the doctors in the House supported the reform bill because of their bitter experiences with HMOs.
